It has been my pleasure to work with David Steinmetz and FenixScenic on two very different projects, both of them very successful.
The Hotel Casablanca project was a full scale build requiring a full deck and a set that was designed to travel. In addition, the set required very realistic doors to be slammed and windows to be opened, much in the style of a television sit-com for the stage. Also, the set was designed to be modifications, making two different locations for each act. The finished set traveled well, performing in theatres in San Francisco and Kentucky.
The set also met all specifications exactly and the painting was excellent. It was also nice to have suggestions with very clever solutions to problems, like how to accomplish an 8’ foot tall neon sign. David suggested we make it out of lighted rod instead of neon which looked great and was less expensive and easier to transport.
The other set was for Lucia de Lammermoor. The design was a series of 4- 8’ foot by 8’ foot towers that moved to different configurations to create the numerous locations required for the production.
This production had a different set of problems, a very tight budget and mobility issues. David suggested we use sets of air-lift casters, which gave the units terrific flexibility, silence, and a very solid base. As for the budget, Set Works used of stock units where ever possible, utilizing different combinations of painting and dimensional detail which created a very finished look for a reasonable price.
My experience with FenixScenic has been excellent and I would and will use them again.
